Words Erupting from a Screen: Listening to the undergraduate students sharing these original pieces of writing was an amazing experience.
Such confidence in tone of voice is quite rare to find; emerging writers are usually nervous when it comes to reading their work for the first time. Some of the writing was exceptional. It was raw, original and had integrity. The writers’ voices shone through.
I was inspired by Toby Pauley’s writing which spoke volumes even if it was quite grim. He wrote of funerals and a graveyard, conveying how it feels when you’re facing loss or are alone, and how you act: ‘Me and my friends get so drunk we piss on the stone.’
Be sure to check this event out next year and support new voices.
